This is my home town. It is called Laxe. It is where I was born. Laxe lies on a sweep of the magical Costa da Morte in Galicia, Spain.
My first memories ever are of falling in love with this little town by the sea, her magic and mystery, her landscapes and surroundings. When I was three my parents took me far away to live in London and my heart was broken.
Growing up in London was special but my heart remained in Laxe.
I was given a camera by my parents at the age of nine and I began photographing my home town every year during the summer holiday. I obsessed over capturing this magical place and taking it back with me to London. Having to say goodbye became more and more difficult with each departure. Looking back, these trials were clearly a catalyst in my development as a photographer.
I have since moved to Helsinki in Finland, but I have never stopped photographing Laxe and the Costa da Morte. I have matured as a photographer over the years but I strongly believe that some of the images I’m drawn to capture are from the viewpoint of that little boy taken away from that mystical place that he loved the most. A perfect, beautiful, safe little haven almost made up but very real and very different from the London I was growing up in.
