Finland - Suomi

This is my journey through Finland so far. Finland’s beauty isn’t immediately obvious; it reveals itself slowly, through its biting cold, deep darkness, and endless summer daylight. While there are stunning vistas, the country’s true charm is subtle and often hidden from plain sight. My early years here were challenging. Many of my long hikes with my camera ended in frustration, as I initially tried to capture Finland’s landscapes the same way I photographed the dramatic coasts of where I come from in Galicia, Spain. I expected bold, striking scenes to stand out, but Finland's beauty emerges when you’re patient and attentive.

All my images are taken with a camera or drone, not created with AI. Sometimes I enhance colour and contrast to better convey the mood of the place, but everything you see in my photos was present in that moment.

Home: Laxe & Costa da Morte, Part 1

This is my home town. It is called Laxe. It is where I was born. Laxe lies on a sweep of the magical Costa da Morte in Galicia, Spain.

My first memories ever are of falling in love with this little town by the sea, her magic and mystery, her landscapes and surroundings. When I was three my parents took me far away to live in London and my heart was broken.

Growing up in London was special but my heart remained in Laxe.

I was given a camera by my parents at the age of nine and I began photographing my home town every year during the summer holiday. I obsessed over capturing this magical place and taking it back with me to London. Having to say goodbye became more and more difficult with each departure. Looking back, these trials were clearly a catalyst in my development as a photographer.

I have since moved to Helsinki in Finland, but I have never stopped photographing Laxe and the Costa da Morte. I have matured as a photographer over the years but I strongly believe that some of the images I’m drawn to capture are from the viewpoint of that little boy taken away from that mystical place that he loved the most. A perfect, beautiful, safe little haven almost made up but very real and very different from the London I was growing up in.
